Mr. Leonard Gerhard Reinderhoff “Jerry” C.D. late of Abbotsford, BC passed away on January 17, 2008 at the age of 72 at Langley Memorial Hospital.
He is survived by his loving wife, Sheila; his sister, Louise; brothers: Gerard and Charles; son, Robert (Kelli); daughter:Heather (Dale), son Nathan (Tanya); grandchildren: Victor, Alexis and Tristan; and other family members: Jake, Marilyn and Jim, Shirley and Michael, and Dianna and Phil.
He was predeceased by his mother and father.
Jerry was born on the Isle of Celebes in Indonesia. He was interned with his mother and sister in Japanese concentration camps from 1941-1945 in Indonesia.
His amazing life included stowing away on a ship from Turkey to get to Canada as a teen, where he joined the RCAF in Penhold, Alberta and served 22 years. During this time he met his first wife Sharon.
Jerry retired from the Air Force in Chilliwack, where he owned and operated Wellington Opticians for 20 years. He deeply enjoyed boating on Harrison Lake in his ‘Gypsy Girl’, and even had an island in Harrison Lake named after him.
Jerry never let his young life work against him, he used it to his advantage and was able to deal with any difficulty in life with great dignity, grace and humor. If there was hard work to be done, he always had a way of making it fun and enjoyable. Jerry’s great disposition and positive attitude stayed with him to the end and was a great inspiration to all around him. A legend has passed … honour to the brave.
Jerry will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all those whose lives he touched.
Special thanks to long-time friends Brian and Victoria and to Dr. Whitman.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Heart and Lung Association would be greatly appreciated.
A celebration of life will be held Thursday, January 24, 2008 at 7:00 p.m. at the Ag-Rec centre 6800 Pioneer Avenue, Agassiz, BC. All friends are welcome to attend.
