Leona Marie chapman

August 22, 2006

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Leona Chapman in Chilliwack General Hospital on August 22, 2006. After a long battle with illness. Leona was born on August 28, 1932 in Belleville, Ontario.

She is survived by her loving husband Forrest of 57 years, two sons James (Rose), Forrest Jr., two daughters Cathryn (Larry), Valerie (Willhelm). Seven grandchildren Stacey (Barry), Forrest, Dannielle (Rene), Jason (Marie), Tyson (Kathleen), Clinton (Kimberley), Leona. Nine great grandchildren Megan, Dallas, Courtney, Tristin, Jordyn, Camryn, Morgan, Brody and Kirk. a brother Clifford in Bancroft, Ontario. Predeceased by her parents Alex and Mary Sutherland and one granddaughter Johanna Bouchard.

Leona will be remembered for her great capacity as a homemaker, always a large amount of preserves and food on hand to feed and share with family and friends. Her passion was her Christmas cakes that she would slip in that wee bit of extra rum and then make sure that everyone of her friends and family received one at Christmas. As depicted by a sign on her front door “Love, Laughter, & Friends are always welcome here.” A lot of the time it meant strangers as well. As Forrest was in the military Leona would spend months parenting the family while Forrest was away. it is said that over their 57 years together Forrest built Leona seven houses but Leona made them homes. You will be missed by all those you touched as a wife, parent and friend.

A memorial to celebrate Leona’s life will be held at St. John’s Anglican Church on Higgison Road in Sardis on Saturday, September 2, 2006 at 1:00PM. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to B.C. Children’s Hospital.
