(1935 - 2009)
Peacefully, Leo William Yuskin of Chilliwack, British Columbia passed away at the age of 73 on February 1, 2009 at the Chilliwack General Hospital.
Leo was born in Eriksdale, Manitoba on March 11, 1935 to Bill and Flora. He is survived by his brothers Anthony Yuskin (Winnipeg, MB), and Joseph (Baby) Yuskin (Santee, CA); his daughters: Carol Lawrence, Jo-Anne Yuskin, Karen Yuskin, his son Kelly (Sandra) Yuskin (Winnipeg, MB); and, his stepson Rory Kohinski (Noreen) (Surrey, BC). He is also survived by several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, cousins, nieces, nephews and many friends.
Leo was predeceased by his infant brother Roman (1941), his Father (1968) and Mother (1996), and his wife Audie of 31 years in 1999.
Leo spent his early years on the farm in Eriksdale, Manitoba, later moving to Winnipeg. Leo drove truck for several companies in Winnipeg before moving to British Columbia in 1969. It was in BC that he later established Yuskin Transport LTD. It was on his ferry trips to Vancouver Island that he established many of his lifelong friendships.
Leo and his wife returned to Winnipeg in 1987 for two years. Upon returning to BC, Leo gained employment as Shipper/Receiver (dock cop as he referred to it) at Terminal Produce in Vancouver, BC. In 1999, Leo retired to his friend, Jan Kleven’s, farm in Chilliwack, BC and continued to do what he did best – feeding the horses, pitching hay, rebuilding an old truck, fixing things up and playing with his dog Ruby.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to the charity of your choice.
A luncheon celebrating Leo’s life will be held on February 7, 2009 1:30 pm at the Seniors Hall, 45795 Victoria Avenue, Chilliwack, BC.
Another celebration is to take place in Winnipeg and will be announced at a later date in the Winnipeg Free Press.
