March 11, 1931 - March 10, 2020
Leendert VanderKwaak of Chilliwack B.C. passed away peacefully on March 10, 2020 having lived to the age of 88, one day short of his 89th birthday.
Len was born March 11, 1931 to Nicolaas and Bastiantje VanderKwaak in Sassenheim, The Netherlands. Len immigrated to Canada in 1951 eventually settled in Terrace, BC, in 1953. In 1985, he moved to Chilliwack where he lived for the rest of his life.
Len married Lutina Bergman in 1955, and together they raised four children: Lloyd, Judy, David, and Michael. Len and Lutina were married for 32 years until she passed away in 1988. Len and Maria Dewolde were married in 1989 and his family was expanded by four more children: Maria's sons, Rick, Randy, John and Kevin. Len was Opa to 26 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren.
Len was a carpenter by profession and he built churches, schools and houses throughout northern BC. A well known project was the Usk Pioneer Chapel constructed in 1967 as a centennial project by the Terrace Christian Reformed Church. He loved serving as a volunteer at the Bibles for Missions Thrift store, singing in the Abbotsford Men's Choir, gardening, and playing his harmonica.
Len was a passionate believer in Jesus Christ and served as an elder, deacon, Sunday School teacher and Superintendent in the Christian Reformed Church.
Visitation will be at Henderson's Funeral Home, 45901 Victoria Ave., Chilliwack on March 16 7:15 to 9:00 pm. The Graveside will be at Chilliwack Cemeteries, 10010 Hillcrest Dr. at 11:00 am on March 17, 2020. Celebration of Life service at 1:00 pm at Cornerstone Christian Reformed Church, 9800 McNaught Rd., Chilliwack, BC.
