Aug. 1, 1924 - June 13, 2011

Leah (nee Bischke) Ginther passed away peacefully in her sleep and into the arms of her loving Savior in the early morning hours of June 13th, 2011.

Leah was the oldest child born to the late William and Mary Bischke in Irvine, Alberta on August 1st 1924. She grew up on her family farm, along with her three siblings, Rueben, Alice and Edna. At the tender age of 18, Leah met Herb, who was a young pastor and he would often come to the farm for ‘Sunday afternoon visits.’ They were married on October 7th 1943, their son Larry to follow August 5th 1944. They served as Pastor in many churches throughout BC, Alberta and Saskatchewan in the following years.

Leah served as a Sunday school teacher (even teaching her own granddaughters), taught Bible Study and was Evangelical Women’s president for several years. She loved books and had always dreamed of becoming an elementary school teacher. Leah was an amazing cook and homemaker. The family had many wonderful meals of her strudels, chicken, cinnamon buns, maple walnut chiffon cake and her plum kuchen. She was a skilled seamstress and her granddaughter’s wardrobe benefitted from this talent.

She is predeceased by her husband Herbert T. Ginther on May 16th, 1986 and her parents William and Mary Bischke. She leaves to mourn her son Larry (Renate) Ginther, 2 granddaughters Jennifer (Gary) Lau and Stephanie (Chris) MacDonald and 4 great-grandsons Braedon Will, Jake MacDonald and Nathan and Jackson Lau. She also leaves to mourn her siblings, Rueben (Agnes) Bischke, Alice (Ephraim) Haas, Edna (Don) Kanewischer and many nieces and nephews from both sides of the family.

Thank you to the staff at Cascade Manor for their care and support over the past 5 years. Thank you also to Dr. Markey who took such loving care of Leah.
