(nee Munro)

May 13 1917 – May 7, 2011

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Laura Kennedy at Heritage Village, Chilliwack, a few days shy of her 94th birthday.

Mom was born in Rosedale, B.C., on Mother’s Day, May 13, 1917 to Colon & Helen Munro. The 2nd of 6 children, she grew up on the family farm in Rosedale. The Munro’s were among the earlier of the pioneer families to locate to Rosedale in 1877.

Mom met Dad in New Westminster while he was stationed there during WW2. They were married March 2, 1946 and after a brief stay in Quebec, moved to Rosedale where they raised their large family.

Writing poetry, solving crosswords and puzzles were some of Mom’s great pleasures, but Mom loved her garden the most! She pampered, harvested, catalogued and reused her own seeds, year after year. Mom also volunteered her time playing her accordion at several seniors’ residences in Chilliwack.

Before all else, Mom was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and she lived a full life.

Mom was pre-deceased by her siblings, her infant daughter Maureen in 1955 and her husband, Charlie in 2002. They were married for 56 years.

Mom will be sorely missed by her six children, Gloria (Bob) McLean, Wayne (Fay) Kennedy, Faye Kirkpatrick, Donna (Ivan) Larson, Barry (Rose) Kennedy and Dallas (Leslie) Kennedy; 15 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Family and friends are invited to gather for a celebration of Mom’s life on Monday, May 16th at 1:00 pm at the Camp River Community Hall.
