“Nick”

Klaus Dieter “Nick” Grasslin passed away on November 12, 2008 suddenly at home at age 76 years. He was born July 11, 1932 in Mannheim, West Germany.

Nick is survived by his son Don (Rochelle); grandchildren: Jennifer, Rachel, and Nicolas.

He was predeceased by his wife Christel; his parents, Hans and Frieda; his brother, Norbert: and sister, Ursul Heubach (nee Grasslin).

Nick immigrated to Canada as a young man working his way across Canada with his trade as a professional welder, finally settling in Vancouver. Nick welded many of the large bridge projects in BC in his era of welding. During this time he met Christel, the beautiful girl who would be his wife for 35 years. They married and settled in their first home in Surrey, BC.

In 1968, Nick and Christel moved to Chilliwack buying the Sleep Ezee Motel on Yale Rd. In the 70’s, he changed his career to an electrician with Quality Electric for many years. In 1984, he established Nick’s Lighting Centre, with his new role as a lighting salesman. He repaired lamps and had solutions for peoples’ lighting problems. No matter how messy, Nick could find it in his store. Nick had the privilege of meeting and serving Chilliwack and its wonderful people for 20 years. He will be sadly missed by all his friends and family.

A visitation for family and friends will be held at 7 pm on Thursday, November 20, 2008 at Woodlawn Mt. Cheam Funeral Home, 45865 Hocking Ave.

Graveside service will be held on Friday, November 21, 2008 at 10:30 at Vedder View Cemetery followed by a Celebration of Life at the Vedder Legion, 5661 Vedder Rd. between 12 and 3pm.

Memorial donations in lieu of flowers may be made to the BC Children’s Hospital Foundation, 4480 Oak Street, Rm B 321, Vancouver BC V6H 3V4.
