Kenneth Mitchell Humphrey passed away peacefully on December 18, 2009 in Chilliwack, BC at the age of 85 years.

Ken was born in Grandview, Manitoba. In 1944 he enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force and at the end of the war he enrolled in engineering at the University of Manitoba. In 1947 he moved to Whalley, BC to be near his mother, father and sister, Noreen. He joined the Department of Highways and after his marriage to Nora in 1951, they lived in Harrison Hot Springs, Whalley and Quesnel. In 1968 Ken and family moved to Revelstoke when he was hired as Parks Maintenance Officer for Mt. Revelstoke and Glacier National Parks.

Ken and Nora retired in 1975 and moved to Chilliwack, BC. Their retirement was filled with visits to grandchildren and extended family, worldwide travel and hobbies including bridge, lawn bowls, and curling.

During his life, Ken was a member of the Masonic Order, the Gizeh Shrine, the Probus Club and the Canadian Legion.

Ken is survived by his loving wife of 58 years Nora; his sister Noreen; his daughters and sons-in-law Patricia and Perry, Kathleen and Alan and Lori and Frank. He is also survived by his 8 grandchildren Brian (and wife Silke), Ross, Jane, Nick, Christina, Alex, Scott and David and one great-grandchild Cedric. Ken will be missed by his friends and extended family in BC, Washington USA, Alberta, Manitoba and England.

A Celebration of Life tea will be held at 11:30 am on January 4, 2010 in the Fraser Room at Coast Chilliwack Hotel, 46920 First Avenue, Chilliwack, BC.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial donations may be made in Kenneth’s name to the Canadian Cancer Society or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
