CHISHOLM; Kenneth John

January 12, 1923 ~ November 26, 2016

With great sadness we announce the passing of Ken Chisholm. He will be dearly missed by his wife Sylvia, daughters Shonah (Bob), Wendy, son John (Meghan) and his brothers Bill (Grace) and Alan (Marilyn). He will be affectionately missed by his step children Gary (Betty-Ann), Barb and Brian, his many grandchildren and great grandchildren. He is predeceased by his first wife Elizabeth, and granddaughter Candice. As a young man Ken earned his Engineering Degree at the University of Toronto. He learned the value of service from his father, (the Chief of the Toronto City Police) and went on to a full career as a Military Engineer in the Canadian Forces. He fought for democracy in the Korean war and as a Lieutenant Colonel he was the Commanding Officer of an Engineer Field Squadron in Germany during the Cold War. After retirement from the military, as the British Columbia Inspector of Dykes, he continued with public service for a further ten years; ensuring flood containment for much of the L.M.D. and other areas of BC. Ken always enjoyed life, people, the outdoors, his dogs and a good joke. While an engineer by trade; he used humour to “build bridges” between people. He was an amazing husband and father - such a good man who will be sadly missed. A celebration of Ken's life will be held January 12, 2017 at a family home. Ken's friends will be contacted once arrangements have been finalized. If we miss you please phone 1-250-240-4039 before January 10, 2017. The family wishes to thank the staff of The Waverly, Advantage Rehab and Christine Bamford (personal attendant) for their warm care and attention to Ken in his later years, and the Staff of 4 South, Chilliwack Hospital for their kindness during his final hours. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Eve Project through Hungry for Life at 604-703-0223 or the Alzheimer/Dementia Society.
