It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Kenneth Allan Smith on August 15, 2011 in Chilliwack, BC at the age of 84. Ken is survived by his sons, Ralph (Jill), Brian, Terry (Charlotte) and Kendall (Katherine); granddaughters, Janet, Jaclyn, Chantal and Rachel; grandsons David, Terrill and great-grandchildren, Abigail and Dayton. He was predeceased by his wife, Pearl (2009).

Ken was born July 21, 1927 in Hughton, Saskatchewan. He worked in Saskatchewan with the Canadian Pacific Railway before moving, with his Mom, to the Lower Mainland area of Hammond. It was here that Ken worked within the forest industry, working in the lumber mills. It was also here that Ken met the love of his life, Pearl and were soon married and eventually moved to Abbotsford. Here, he commenced employment with Customs and Immigration. It was also here that they raised their four boys and had an incredible marriage. It was May 12, 1983 that Ken retired from Canada Immigration.

Years before, and after his retirement, Ken loved traveling with his wife, pulling their trailer all over western Canada as well as western and southwestern United States. He so loved spending those special times with his wife and enjoyed showing off all their pictures.

In the later years of his life, Ken was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease. As difficult as it was dealing with the issues associated with this disease, he never let it get him down, for he still wanted to watch the local hockey games and go for walks.
