Keith Merle Carmichael

August 27, 1943 - June 17, 2025

Keith Merle Carmichael passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of June 17th, 2025, at home, with his wife Bev at his side.

He was born on August 27th, 1943, in Killam, Alberta, and moved to White Rock, British Columbia, at the age of 12. He was the fourth of six children born to Merle and Edith Carmichael.

On February 5, 1965, Keith eloped with the love of his life, Bev Walker. Together, they built a life full of love and purpose in White Rock, Surrey, and eventually Chilliwack, B.C.

Keith worked at Silvertree Sawmills for 39 years, starting on the green chain and eventually becoming the head sawyer. He retired at age 58 when the mill closed. Retirement marked the beginning of a new adventure for Keith and Bev—they sold their 10-bedroom, 5-bathroom home, where they had lovingly fostered many children, and spent several years exploring North America in their motorhome.

For 28 years, Keith and Bev opened their home and hearts to foster children through the Ministry of Children and Families. In recognition of their compassion and dedication, they received the Lieutenant Governor's Foster Family Award in 1991.

Keith was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather—fondly known as "Papa." He is survived by Bev, his beloved wife of 60 years; his children: Dena (Ron) Urquhart, Darren (Allison) Carmichael, Karen (David) Peare, and Allan Carmichael; his grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and three of his sisters: Marlene, Carol, and June. He also leaves behind his dog, Max, with whom he enjoyed many walks.

He was predeceased by his daughter Michelle Carmichael, his sister Marilyn Haugen, and his brother Dale Carmichael.

Keith found joy in the simple things—volunteering and playing pool with the "Pool Guys" at Rainbow Community Estates, walking his dog Max, and spending time with loved ones. He will be deeply missed by all who have had the privilege of knowing him.

Keith's service will be held on July 4th, 2025, at Valley View Memorial Gardens, 14644 72nd Ave, Surrey BC. The service will be at 11:00 am, and internment will take place at 12:00 pm, with refreshments to follow. All are welcome.
