Keith

(June 15, 1930 – June 2, 2012)

Keith, a loving caring husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend passed away peacefully on June 2, 2012 at Cascade Hospice with family at his side. Keith was predeceased by his parents Harry and Margaret McDermott, his brother Jack, his son Gerald in 1995, his first wife Vi in 2001 and his daughter Colleen Byrne in 2012.

He is survived by his wife, Sharon, his daughter Denise McDermott (Ray) of Langley, his daughter Cheryl Leeson (Lane) of Quesnel, son-in-law Roger Byrne of Chilliwack, and sister-in-law May McDermott and Lola Anderson. Also surviving are seven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Keith is also survived by Sharon’s children, Mike (Liz) Rollheiser of Golden, Don (Bev) Rollheiser of Saskatoon and Anne (Marty) Reichelt of Williams Lake. Keith was born in Thorne, England but came to Canada when he was three weeks old.

His early years were spent in Vancouver and Surrey. After his retirement from Weldwood of Canada, Keith and Vi built a home on the Similkameen River where they lived for five years before moving to Chilliwack.

Keith was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed RVing and camping near rivers and lakes where he could appreciate God’s creation while fishing.

Even though Keith’s health declined quickly after being diagnosed with cancer in June 2011, he valiantly continued to finish the many projects he had planned. This wonderful man deserves his rest.

Service of Remembrance will be held at Woodlawn Mt. Cheam Funeral Home, 45865 Hocking Avenue, Chilliwack, on Saturday, June 9, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. Tea to follow at Rainbow Estates Clubhouse, 9055 Ashwell Rd, Chilliwack.
