Kay passed away on Friday, May 15, 2009 at the Chilliwack Hospital at age of 86 years.

Predeceased by husband Mel in 1993, Kay is survived by her son Ian (Sharon); daughter, Cheryl (Bryan); grandchildren: Lindsay, Sean, Allyn; and sister, Betty, as well as a large extended family.

Kay was born in Lloyd–minster, AB in 1922, the youngest of six children to Jack and Carrie George. Her young years were spent on the farm in Alberta, and she graduated from Vermillion College in 1941. She married Mel Meissner in Chilliwack in 1962 and spent many happy years on Higginson Road; enjoying her garden, card playing, bowling, golfing, and travelling in the camper.

She worked as a practical nurse at CGH and at Coqualeetza hospital. Many Chilliwack marriages were celebrated with one of Kay’s beautifully decorated cakes. Kay was a long-time member of St. John’s Anglican Church, a life member of the Lady Foresters, and thoroughly enjoyed volunteering Tuesday’s at the Salvation Army soup kitchen.

In her later years, Kay lived happily in Sardis at Wellsbrook Landing, feeding the ducks and squirrels and socializing with friends and at Lynnwood Retirement Residence.

Many thanks to all her good friends and neighbours on Higginson Road, at Wellsbrook, and at the Lynnwood.

“Granny Kay” will be remembered for her generosity, her feisty nature, and her great smile.

The family would like to thank Dr. Grunow, the CGH Emergency and NU5 staff for their care.

Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, May 23, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at St. John’s Anglican Church in Sardis.

In lieu of flowers, donations made to the Chilliwack Community Services would be greatly appreciated.
