(nee Cindric)

Katie (Kay) Miller (nee Cindric) passed away on February 15, 2011 at Chilliwack, BC, at age 90 years. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Nancy Miller, Horsefly, BC, nieces Lynn Cindric, Dawson Creek, Darlene Kalyta, Calgary, Diana Loney, Winnipeg, and nephew Wayne Loney, London, ON. Kay was predeceased by her loving husband Jim Miller Sr., sisters Ava, Millie (Loney), Dorothy (Kalyta), and brother Pete.

She was born on October 12, 1920, and emigrated as a young woman with her family from the then Yugoslavia to Canada. Kay met and married Jim in Calgary. They transferred their young family to Chilliwack with the Canadian Armed Forces in 1953.

Kay was petite in size, with a strong independent personality, a beautiful smile, and a great sense of humour. She was a tireless volunteer and was recognized as Chilliwack’s Volunteer of the Year in 1997. She was happiest performing with the Chilliwack Heritage Singers. Her favourite eatery was Banner’s Restaurant.

Jim and Nancy sincerely thank the many professional caregivers involved in Kay’s health care while she resided in Birchwood the past eight years. All of these people, and many others not named, often went the extra mile to ensure Kay was cared for with dignity and compassion: Dr. Hamilton and Gina, all Birchwood staff and volunteers, the Fraser Health, Chilliwack Home Health, Home Support team coordinated by case manager Amanda, and Crystal Hearing’s Steve, Trisha, and Jamie. Everyone’s caring and cooperative attitude diminished our physical distance from Chilliwack.

Kay will be cremated by Henderson’s Funeral Home and Crematorium. No service by request. Celebrate her life if you wish by making a donation to your favourite charity, or volunteering in your community.
