Katharine Leta Hensch, late of Valleyhaven Guest Home, formerly of Bashaw, Alberta passed away Tuesday, November 20th 2007 in Chilliwack at age 91. Katharine was born November 18th 1916 in Bashaw, Alberta, and had lived in the Chilliwack area for 55 years.

She lovingly covered clothes hangers for many friends and family. She was a homemaker and her baking was world famous, especially her Lemon Meringue pies and fresh Raspberry pies.

Mom enjoyed playing board games like Rummikube, Upwords and Scrabble. She was a life member of the ELW organization and the Seniors Unlimited Group at Christ Lutheran Church.

Kay is survived by her two daughters Lorraine Krause of Chilliwack and Norma Dirks of Nanaimo, BC; grandchildren: Larry (Anita) Krause of Chilliwack, Brian (Cheryl) Dirks and Catherine (Edward) Saunders both from Nanaimo, BC; great-grandchildren Kristyn and Kraig Krause of Chilliwack, Bryce and Shyla Saunders of Nanaimo, BC, one sister Hazel Trout of Camrose, AB; and one sister-in-law Velma Shoemaker of Calgary, Alberta, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Kay was predeceased by her husband William Hensch in 1978, mother Leta Smith Shoemaker in 1925 and father Wilbur Shoemaker in 1948; two sons-in-law: Elmer Dirks in 1996 and Erwin Krause in 2004; brothers: Charles Shoemaker in 1952, Jesse Shoemaker in 1992, Leo Shoemaker in 1999, Robert Shoemaker in 1981 and Fred Shoemaker in 2002; sisters: Anna Shoemaker in 1924, and Bertha Masters in 1998; sisters-in-law: Anna (Jackshaw) Shoemaker in 1993, Dorothy (Stone) Shoemaker in 1997, Jean (Trout) Shoemaker in 1993, and Joan (Bye) Shoemaker in 2007; and brothers-in-law: Henry Masters and William Trout.

A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, November 24th 2007 at 12:00 p.m. at Christ Lutheran Church, Chilliwack B.C. Pastor Dean Andersen officiating. Interment at Chilliwack Cemeteries on Little Mountain.

Thank you to Dr. Alex Bartel for his care and attention over the many years. Also, thank you to the staff at Valleyhaven Guest Home, who showed an abundance of love and care.
