Josephine Phyllis HELMER

Josephine Phyllis Helmer late of Chilliwack, passed away Oct. 7, 2004 at the age of 90 years. Josie was born on the 29th of December, 1913 to Italian immigrants.

She married John Helmer in 1932 and had 2 sons; Fred and John Jr.

She is survived by her two sons and their families which includes 5 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

She is predeceased by her husband, John; mother and father; 4 brothers and 1 sister.

Josie and family moved to Fairfield Island in Feb. 1951 and over the years owned and operated 3 businesses: Tom’s Snack Bar, the old roller rink which is now the HSBC Bank; The Legion Café on Kipp and the Sardis Confectionary. Later Josie and John Snr. moved to the Riverside Resort where they went into business with their son, Fred.

They then moved to an apartment on Cook Street until John passed away Sept. 30, 1994. Josie then moved to the Lania Apts. where she lived for almost 10 years where she was treated like family by the managers, Sam and Edna Eberly.

There will be a Celebration of her life on the 16th of October, from 1-4 p.m. at the Chilliwack Seniors Social Society Hall on Cook Street.
