Jolyne "Babe" Harverson

November 8, 2018

October 2, 1928 - November 8, 2018
With heavy hearts, we share the peaceful passing of our mother, Jolyne (Babe) Harverson. Surrounded by her two children, she left us to join her husband Bob, her parents and four siblings (Fifi, Hope, Louise, Chuck) in heaven. She leaves behind her daughter Sheila (Rod) Scoble and son Ken(Elaine) Harverson, 4 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and 2 great, great grandbabies to mourn. The extended families of her nieces, nephews and their children plus untold numbers of friends will miss her deeply.

Born in Carlton Place, ON, at an early age, her family moved to Vancouver where she spent most of her life. From the age of three, when she won her first trophy, swimming was an integral part of her life. Not only competitive events, but teaching others to love the water was her passion. Honored for her work with the Red Cross Swim program and Special Olympics, she contributed to the development of the adapted swimming program to share her love of the activity. She continued to swim at the local Y daily until three years ago.

Anything she set out to do, she embraced with energy and passion and recruited others to join her. A longtime member of several spinning and weaving groups, she mentored others in learning new skills. There wasn't a craft or art form that she didn't try and along the way acquired many friends. Learning new things and volunteering to help others were constants in her life.

Her love of travel was also another passion and sharing adventures with family and friends were sources of great happiness. For dad's retirement in 1968, she planned a South Pacific plane hopping tour that took them to French Polynesia, Cook Islands, New Zealand, Australia, Fiji, Samoa and Hawaii. Later in life, cruises became her favorite mode of travel and at 87 she completed a "bucket list" trip through the Panama Canal.

Everywhere she journeyed, she made friends along the way. But most of all, her open door policy of welcoming family, friends and neighbours for "tea, cookies, and cards" was legendary. Many afternoons of visiting and intense games of "Hand and Foot, or SkipBo" to name a few, gave her great joy. Always ready to help others, she gave freely of her time and energies whenever a need arose.

We would like to give special thanks to all the staff at Waverly Extended Care, especially Teresa, Dr. Ling Low and the Salvation Army Pastoral Care team who supported her in the last ten months.

In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to the Heart & Stroke Foundation or the Salvation Army Chilliwack Church.

In order to enable her extended circle of family and friends to attend a service, it will be held on Saturday, January 5th, 2019 at 2:00 pm, Salvation Army Church Chilliwack, 46420 Brooks Ave Reception to follow service.
