It is with great sadness that the family of John Spent announce his passing on June 6, 2020. John born was born on June 5, 1939 in Winnipeg, Manitoba to George and Mary Spenst. The family left Winnipeg in 1948, moving to Yarrow, then eventually settling down in Chilliwack. After high school John worked along side his father and brother Jack as a plasterer. He met the love of his life, Shirley Armitage in 1959 and they were married in June 1963. He was now employed at Dairyland in Sardis, working in the cottage cheese department for 25 years, then in the Abbotsford plant, in the cheddar cheese department for 10 years.
John was a long time member of the Forester's and could be seen helping at all the bingos and functions held at the Forester's Hall in Sardis. He was very active in sports. Everyone knew John one it came to his hockey teams, bowling teams, curling teams and golf games and fishing derbies. He excelled in these sports!
He was an avid card and crib player and enjoyed dominos at all then Spenst family gatherings. John loved camping with family and friends and later it was all about the casino trips with Shirley.
John was predeceased by his parents, brothers Jack and Nick, sister Nettie, brothers-in-law Arne Brendstrup, Aaron Khran, Corny Funk, Ted Gerbrandt, Dick Armitage, Wally Armitage, sisters-in-law Erna Spenst, Danni Armitage, Ev Armitage and his wife Shirley, of 52 years.
He is survived by his daughter Janice and son Brad(Michelle), brother George(Marge) and sisters, Helen(Pete Redekop), Betty(Fred Bartel), Sue(Dave Weins), Margaret, Mary, Tina and numerous nieces and nephews.
Due to Covid restrictions a celebration of life will be held at a later date. John will be greatly missed by so many friends and family and we know that he is enjoying a huge plate of desserts and baking.
