John was born in south Russia to Alexander and Anna Schroeder. He came to Canada as a baby in 1924 along with his brother Vic. A few years after arriving, his brother Alex was born. He grew up and went to school in Winnipeg.
In 1939 he moved to Greendale, BC with his family. He started working on farms, hop yards and nurseries for 25 cents an hour. Most of his life he worked in construction. His last 15 working years he was a rural mail carrier in Sardis. He retired in 1990 and enjoyed 10 years of gardening and looking after his 2 acres. In 2001 he moved into a condominium where he made numerous, wonderful friends. John loved to play sports and was a faithful follower of the Canucks and BC Lions.
He was predeceased by his parents, his stepfather, 2 brothers, Victor Schroeder and Alex Fast. He leaves behind nephews Ed Schroeder (Alison), Garry Fast (Shelley) and nieces Linda Schroeder and Barb Johnson, 3 grand nieces, 1 grand nephew and 2 great, great nieces and 1 great, great nephew.
The family would like to thank the staff at Valleyhaven and the many friends that visited him there.
Funeral service for John will be held at River of Life Church on Wednesday, April 4, at 1:00 pm.
