PINK; John Douglas (Doug)

April 27, 1950 - October 22, 2016

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved father, brother, grandfather, uncle and friend at Chilliwack Hospital on October 22, 2016. He was predeceased by his mother, Ann Blancher, and his father, Douglas Pink. He is survived by his daughter Jessica (Brad), his son Quentin, his step-father Ron, brother Michael (Kim), sister Cathy (Chris), brother David (Emma), brother Sandy (Wendy), grandson Edward, and nieces and nephews: Bowie, Chelsea (Mick), Emily, Michael (Andrea), Patrick (Lawanda, and great-nephew Paul), Caepher, Hannah (Cody), Josie (Kedith), Matthew, Stephen (Kristina), and Madison (Jamie).

Doug was born in Aylmer, Quebec, and moved to BC in 1967. He graduated from Chilliwack Senior Secondary in 1971, and from Simon Fraser University in 1993. Doug taught English at Chilliwack Senior Secondary from 1996 until 2012, when he left due to health problems. Doug loved teaching, and believed in pushing his students to excel. He was very active in the Chilliwack Teachers' Association, and was a staunch supporter of the BCTF and public education. He retired in 2015. Doug was an avid golfer, skier, and reader who could always be found with a stack of books on the go. He wrote poetry that he rarely let anyone read. He was known for his wicked sense of humour, his love of argument, and his dedication to his family, which was the most important thing in his life. He will be greatly missed. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, October 29, 2016, 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm at Chilliwack Secondary School, Alumni Hall, 46361 Yale Road. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Arthritis Society of Canada.
