John Victor Mantler passed away peacefully at Chilliwack General Hospital January 1, 2006 at the age of 77 years. He was born in Osler, Saskatchewan on October 25, 1928 to parents Peter and Maria Mantler.
John had been an area resident since moving to Chilliwack at the age of 14. He worked in Emergency Services for 35 years. After early retirement, he was involved in community work, including volunteer work at the Salvation Army for 14 years, Senior repairs and Gleeners. He was very fond of gospel music and over the years sang in various choirs. His many hobbies included fishing, bicycle riding, hiking, golf and woodworking.
He is survived by Mary, his wife of 55 years; daughter, Marilyn (Lionel) Stehr of Saskatoon; son, Allan (Lynda) Mantler of Abbotsford; and 3 grandsons, Jeffrey, Craig and Mitchel Stehr. John lost his battle with cancer after a valiant struggle.
Funeral Services to be held on Saturday, January 7, 2006 at 1:00 pm at Eden Mennonite Church, 46551 Chilliwack Central Rd. Chilliwack, BC Pastor Kerry Palmer officiating.
