While in the loving presence of family, it is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Keith, who was in the care of Cascade Hospice in Chilliwack.
He is predeceased by his wife of 45 years, Ruth (2010); his parents: Jim and Mary Brennan; his sisters: Lilllian (1960) and Phyllis (2010); and his brothers, Dan (1994) and Richard (2010).
Keith is survived by his sister, Ruth; brothers: Alistair and Dale; children: Beverley (John), Bob and Ron (Laurie); grandchildren: Cheryl, Jason, Sonya, Kevin, Josh, Kara Tyler and Aaron; and great-granddaughters: Madison and Makenna.
Keith was born on the family farm near Leross, Saskatchewan. Growing up, he attended school at the Eskdale one room schoolhouse but had to leave after Grade Eight to help on the farm full-time. He started farming his own land at 18 but after a crop failure in 1954, Dad decided to join the military (PPCLI).
Being mechanically inclined, he later transferred to RCEME in 1959 and changed elements to the RCAF in 1960. While stationed at CFS Mont Apica, Quebec, Keith met and married Ruth Elizabeth Menard in 1964.
Two years later, he was posted to Comox, BC then after postings to CFS Holberg and CFB Lahr, Germany, Keith was posted back to BC in 1976 to CFB Chilliwack; retiring from the military in 1979.
His second career spanned 14½ years with Spindaleer Wood Products Ltd, in Chilliwack as a Millwright. He really enjoyed his time with Spindaleer working in his shop, fixing machinery, improving existing equipment and being entrusted to create new designs to improve productivity.
His favourite thing was making friends, building relationships with the business community, and supporting his local Legion Branch #4. Unfortunately, Keith had to enter early retirement in 1994 due to health reasons. In his retirement, Dad enjoyed travelling, visiting family and friends, running Eucre at the Legion, being the BC landing point for prairie family visits as well as received visits from his children and grandchildren. Keith will always be remembered for his lasting friendships, love and commitment to family and above all else, his amazing sense of humour.
A service will be held at Henderson’s Funeral Home on Saturday, September 29, 2012 at 3:00 pm in the
Chapel, followed by refreshments at the Legion Branch #4. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
