John Schmidt, beloved husband of Lydia, passed away at the Chilliwack General Hospital on November 27, 2003 at the age of 84, after a hard fought battle with cancer. John is survived by his wife Lydia; his children, Eldon, Elaine (Ron) Haan, Randy and Ronda, grandchildren, Charity, Dustin, Josh, Sonia (Mike), Cristian (Margaret) and three great grandchildren, Taylor, Keegan, and Bronwynne. He was predeceased by his first wife, Leona; sister, Mary and his parents, Jacob and Anna. John was born on June 6, 1919 in Gruenfeld, South Russia. At age 4, he came to Canada. First to Swift Current, Saskatchewan then to Sardis, B.C. he served in the Royal Canadian Navy from 1942 to 1945, then became a house painter until his retirement in 1984. He loved his Lord and the church and was always volunteering his time. The family would like to give special thanks to Dr. Kishi and the nursing staff on Unit 4 who provided extra care and comfort to him and us. A Celebration of John’s life will be held at the Chilliwack Alliance Church on Wednesday December 3, 2003 at 1:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations to the mission of your choice in John’s memory would be greatly appreciated.
