(April 27, 1913 - April 28, 2008)

Passed away one day after his 95th birthday at Mountain View Manor (Delta Hospital ECU).

Innes was born in Glasgow, Scotland and came to Canada in 1920 with his parents, Innes and Jean. They lived in Edmonton and Victoria before settling in Vancouver in 1925.

Innes was predeceased, in Dec. 2006, by Dorothy, his beloved wife of 62 years.

He will be lovingly remembered by his daughters: Heather (Bill) MacMillan and Cathy Horvath; his granddaughters: Sharon MacMillan, Amy (Ryan) Ridout, and Corinne Horvath; and his great-granddaughter Kaylee.

Innes earned his B.A., Teaching Certificate, and M.A. from U.B.C. (1934 – 1937), his M.Ed. from the Univ. of Washington (1945) and his D. Paed. (PhD in Education) from the Univ. of Toronto (1953). From 1935-1952 he was a teacher and vice-principal at Richmond High School. From 1952 – 1959 he was the first principal of Cambie Jr. High School (Richmond).

For the last 15 years of his career, he was a superintendent of schools – five years in small districts in the interior of B.C. and 10 years in Chilliwack.

Following his retirement, he served as president of both the Chilliwack Red Cross and Chilliwack Community Services. In 1996, Innes and Dorothy moved to Tsawwassen to be near their family.

Innes was a caring and generous man, a devoted son, husband, father and grandfather and was respected by all who knew him for his faith and integrity. He was a life-long member of the Presbyterian Church, serving as a Sunday School teacher, an elder, and a member of many committees.

A memorial service will be held at Richmond Presbyterian Church, Saturday, May 10 at 1:30 pm.

If desired, in lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to a charity of your choice.
