January 10, 1921 - April 22, 2020
On Wednesday April 22, 2020 our loving father John Herbert Robotham passed away at the age of 99 years. He was carried to heaven in the arms of Jesus Christ. John was born in Vancouver, B.C. on January 10th, 1921 to Herbert and Winnifred (Cox) Robotham. He left school early and at the age of 17 volunteered in the Canadian Army.
He enlisted in 1940 and served in Canada as a Lance corporal with the 3rd Division Petrol Company. In 1941 John was shipped overseas to serve in WWII in England, Normandy, Holland and Germany. In September 1945 he returned home to Vancouver, B.C., with his beautiful war bride Irene.
John was discharged from the Canadian Army in November, 1945, receiving the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp, Defense Medal, 1939-1945 Star Medal, France and Germany Star Medal.
Throughout his life our father was a great handyman and loved to camp, fish and hunt. He also loved to cook, making his famous porridge, pies, cookies and home-made jam. John spent a few years at Chartwell Birchwood Retirement Residence and his last years at Waverly Seniors Village. He loved to joke with you and appreciated your care for him.
Our father is survived by his 4 children- Donna, Rick (Nancy), Julie (Fred), Dan (Cindy), 19 Grandchildren, 34 Great grandchildren and 7 great great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Our dad was predeceased by his siblings (Earl, Bud, Joan), Granddaughter (Laura) Great Grandson (Adrian).
In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Royal Canadian legion or Department of Veterans Affairs would be appreciated.
