John George Matthies was born on January 10, 1936 in Carrot River, SK. He died peacefully at age 72 on January 11, 2008 in White Rock, B.C.
He was predeceased by the tragic deaths of his eight-month-old daughter Christine, and five-year-old son Steven, with whom he is now reunited in heaven, as well as his parents John and Kathryn Matthies and his oldest sister Susan Huebert.
For the past 15 years John has been a Handy Dart driver in White Rock and Langley. The interactions he had with his passengers were a constant source of joy to John, he formed many close, loving relationships and experienced a great deal of fulfillment in his work
John is survived by two sons and one daughter: Jeffrey Matthies, Teresa Boots (Chuck Zachow), Jim Matthies (Lisa), as well as seven grandchildren: Joel, Lindsay and Jordan Matthies, Justin, Jarod and Nicholas Boots, and Jaden Matthies. Also left behind are three sisters and three -brothers; Elsie Connor (Hughie), Lillian Franklin, Lottie Rose, Neil (Ann) Matthies, Ben (Edith) Matthies, and Ken (Marty) Matthies.
Funeral services are planned for January 19 at 1:00 pm at the Chilliwack Alliance Church, 8700 Young Road South. Internment to follow at the Greendale Cemetery.
