September 11, 1928 - March 2, 2021
Johannes (John) Hendrikus Adrianus Vollebregt passed away peacefully on March 2, 2021 in Hope B.C. at the age of 92. He was born on September 11, 1928 in Naaldwijk, Netherlands.
After getting married to Allegonda van der Zijde (Connie), they immigrated to Canada in 1953. John's first job was on the Bonaparte Ranch in Cache Creek. A few years later they moved to North Bend to start their own dairy farm.
"Farmer John" produced and delivered unpasteurized milk in glass bottles to his clients in North Bend, Boston Bar and Lytton. Moving on, they purchased a dairy farm in Rosedale and after a brief "retirement" bought another farm on Yale Rd East in Chilliwack.
After retiring again, John & Connie enjoyed travelling through North America in their ever changing RV's and made several trips to visit with family in Holland. They especially enjoyed hosting family from Holland, taking them on tours to various parts of Canada.
John loved playing bridge as often as he could and enjoyed tinkering in anyone's garden. He was a member of the Lions Club in the Fraser Canyon and was a long time member of the Rotary Club and the Probus Club.
John spent 5 years as a director for the East Chilliwack Co-op and was instrumental in starting a local curling league for farmers. He was interested in politics and ran as the local Liberal MP candidate in a federal election in the late 1980's. Most of all, he loved his family, being an Opa and great Opa.
John is survived by his 2nd wife Josephine, daughters Cathy (Melvin), Cori (Eric) and Jenny (Michael), foster son Bryan (Judy) grandchildren Sean (Jennifer), Ashley, Meghan, Briana (Rebecca), Raimy, Kirsten, Jillian and Shane (Monique), great grandchildren Nevaeh, Nathan and Harrison. He was predeceased by his wife Allegonda and granddaughter Caitlyn.
Due to Covid 19 restrictions, a service to celebrate his life will be at a later date, yet to be determined.
