February 22, 2005

Johannes (Hans) Gerrit Treffers of Chilliwack B.C., passed away in the early morning hours on Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2005 at the Chilliwack General Hospital after a valiant struggle with many health problems.

Hans was born on January 29, 1933 in Den Helder, Holland. Before W.W. II, the Treffers family moved to Indonesia as his dad served in the Dutch Navy. After the war, Hans continued his education in Holland and after six years in the Dutch Air Force, he emigrated to Canada (Montreal) where he met and married Josie.

Hans graduated from the University of Waterloo in engineering and worked for the Canadian federal government, retiring in 1992. His greatest pleasures were travelling and working on his hobbies. He belonged to several organizations including the Knights of Columbus. Hans will be fondly remembered for his sense of humour, his friendliness and being a good provider.

Missing him always will be his loving wife Josie, daughters Maryann of North Vancouver and Jackie (Patrick), grandsons Connor and Braedan, and granddaughter Kerri of Gibsons; sister Anne, nephews Frank (Beppe) and Edwin (Anita), niece Marjolein (Riejer), greatnieces and nephews of Holland (Nykerk), and many friends near and far.

Thanks to our friends and neighbours for your loving support. The family would also like to thank the staff on the 4th floor and ICU at Chilliwack General Hospital for their support and for comforting Hans during his final days.
