Johanna passed away peacefully at Cascade Lodge, May 13, 2012, six weeks short of her 101st birthday. She is survived by her son John (Jane); grandchildren Shealagh, Andrew and Sean and great-grandchildren, Jacob, Emily, Hamish and Charlotte in Ottawa.

Son Nick (Annette); grandchildren David, Robb and Marianne who with her support worker Melissa visited her faithfully every Sunday and brought her chocolates and flowers. Also great-grandchildren Kaela, Nicole and Hunter from Agassiz who visited her frequently, and great-grandchildren Abbey in Texas. Her sister Lena and nieces Ilse, Rosemarie and Hanspeter (Angela) residing in Germany – the Black Forest.

She was predeceased by her husband William and son Andrew (Gisela) residing in Qualicum Beach.

Johanna was the 9th child of ten born in Sulzburg, Germany. She travelled to England with her sister Lena, met her husband, married and had three sons. They immigrated to Canada in 1947, settling in Armstrong, BC.

Johanna was a member of Zion United Church, a Rebecca and a member of the Knob Hill Ladies Aid. She was well known for her baking and handiwork. Johanna enjoyed travelling to wilderness fishing lodges working as a chef.

There will be a celebration of life at Zion United Church in Armstrong later this summer. A tea in Johanna’s memory will be held at the Chilliwack United Church, Tuesday, May 29, 2012 from 2-4 pm.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Cat Haven on Chilliwack Central.
