Born April 19, 1928 in England. Died Dec. 28, 2009 in Chilliwack, BC at age 81.
Predeceased by her husband Morris in 2008 and her son Michael in 1980. Survived by her daughter Anne (John) Thompson and son John Wilson. Grandchildren Amy and Karen Thompson and Brittany and Linden Wilson.
Joan was trained as a nurse in England and came to Bralorne, BC to relieve her sister at Bralorne hospital during maternity leave. She met her future husband Morris there. They married on May 21, 1957 in Vancouver.
Joan and Morris became secular Franciscans and, later, when they moved to the Chilliwack area, they started the first Franciscan order in BC outside of the Vancouver order.
Joan also dedicated some time to the Chilliwack Hospice Society as a trained volunteer, eventually receiving a 10-year plaque.
Joan enjoyed painting and needlework. She sang in church choirs.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, Jan. 5, 2010 at 11:00 am at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 8909 Mary St., Chilliwack, BC. Interment at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Promontory Rd., Chilliwack.
