Jannigje (Jennie) Verbeek was born on November 29, 1927 and passed away at 84 years of age on June 14, 2012 at the Heritage Village, Chilliwack, BC. Jennie will be sadly missed by her children; Alie DeJonge (Herb), Tony Verbeek (Terry), Maryke Verbeek (Gary O’Krainetz), Elisabeth Kooyman (Ken), William Verbeek (Joanne) and Jennifer Den Hertog (Bert). Jennie had 27 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren. Jennie was predeceased by her loving husband Johannes (John) Verbeek in 1978, her eldest son, Johannes (John) Verbeek in 1978, 13 year old grandson Frankie, in 1986 and still born grandson Philip, in 1979. Jennie was also predeceased by her parents Willem and Aaltje VanderLinden and several siblings who resided in the Netherlands.

Mom immigrated into Canada with her husband and their first two children in 1951. They traveled by ship and landed on the East Coast, only to eventually move west where the farming was said to be abundantly rich with opportunity. They settled in the Fraser Valley while their family and business grew.

Mom was an avid crafter but knitting and crocheting were her favourite hobbies. She could make the most intricate and delicate pieces of work but was also always knitting basic clothing needs for children in Third World countries.

Mom’s life-long involvement with the Ladies Aide Society is where she spent some of her most treasured hours. She truly enjoyed the social time with the group but the heartfelt spiritual discussions were her passion. Mom lived her life with a faith in her Lord and Saviour that few of us can attest to and was quick to remind each of us (her children) that we needed to do the same. Thank you Mom, we love you.

Pallbearers: Tony Verbeek, William Verbeek, Herb DeJonge, Gary O’Krainetz, Ken Kooyman and Bert Den Hertog.
