Jim was born in Miami, Manitoba and moved to BC as an infant with his parents and two brothers. Jim completed his schooling in Chilliwack and then joined the military in 1970. He served in Victoria where he met and married Mary.

He received his degree from Royal Military College in 1984 and retired as an EME captain in 1994. After extensive moves with the military, the family retired to Victoria.

Jim’s love of music served him well in the military and in retirement where he played Oboe in the Sooke Philharmonic Orchestra and the 5th regimental band.
