1917-2021 ~ Jim passed peacefully into the presence of his Lord on September 13, 2021 at Langley Gardens, Langley, BC.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years: Dorothy. He is survived by his son Rowland (Elena); 3 grandchildren; Emily (Jason), Jamie (Loni) and Marie (Galen); his sister; Dorothy, eight grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Born the eldest of three children in Brantford, ON, Jim moved to Toronto to train as a Salvation Army Officer in 1941. After Commissioning (ordination), Jim was posted to Saskatchewan for 4 years. Married to Dorothy (Gratto) in 1945, the couple served as Salvation Army Officers in Ontario, Quebec, New Brunswick, Alberta, Saskatchewan and BC. They retired from Vancouver in 1982 and moved to Chilliwack to be near their son and his family.
Jim will be remembered as a loving husband, father and grandfather. He had a passion for his Saviour, for those in need, and a deep abiding love for his family. Jim loved traveling, reading, cowboy movies and Bible Study. He was always ready and willing to share fascinating stories from his remarkable life.
A celebration of Jim's life will be held at the Salvation Army Community Church, Chilliwack on Saturday, September 25, at 1pm.
Our sincere thanks to the staff at Langley Gardens for their wonderful care of Jim and the kindness they showed to the family.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Salvation Army would be greatly appreciated.
