Kouwenhoven, Jake. December 20, 1927 -
August 28, 2013. Passed away peacefully in his 86th year at Valleyhaven Retirement Community in Chilliwack, where he spent his last 2 years. Jake was born in Maassluis, The Netherlands. He immigrated to Canada in 1949 with his first wife (Maartje de Heer, she passed away March 4, 1981 ) and first lived up at Columbia Valley and eventually resided at School Street.
Jake was employed with the City of Chilliwack for 42 years. Jake and his second wife Carla (Rademaker) had a 31 year marriage. Jake is survived by Carla (Rademaker), his sons Jacob (Rachel), Michael (Marilyn) and Dick Kouwenhoven, daughter Jan (Lindsay) McPhee; 14 grandchildren and 14 8/9 great-grandchildren, his brother Jack and many nieces and nephews and other family members and friends. Jake was predeceased by his daughter, Lois Sheridan (January 2013), Maartje, 2 brothers and 2 sisters. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Unity Christian School, P.O. Box 371, Chilliwack BC V2P 6J4. Thanks to all the staff and caregivers at Valleyhaven for all their care and support over the last 2 years. A Memorial Service will be held at Cornerstone Christian Reformed Church, 9800 McNaught Road on Wednesday, September 4, 2013 at 11:00 am. Refreshments to follow.
