April 3, 2022
With deep sorrow we announce that the Lord in His infinite wisdom and at His time has taken out of our midst our beloved husband, dear father and Opa. Jacob Kooyman of Chilliwack passed away on April 3, 2022 in his home at the age of 81 years. By God's gracious upholding hand Jake was granted a long life even though he had many medical conditions and health concerns.
Psalm 90: 10,12 "The days of our years are threescore years and ten; and if by reason of strength they be fourscore years, yet is their strength labour and sorrow; for it is soon cut off, and we fly away. So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom."
Jacob was born in Nieuwerkerk, the Netherlands on March 23, 1941. He immigrated to Canada with his family in 1953 after the big flood. He loved dairy farming; he purchased his own farm at a young age and after retiring would almost daily go visit Ken's farm"to see what they were doing."
Jacob leaves to mourn his loving wife Sanderina of 45 years, and his four children and 20 grandchildren: Willemina & Marvin Heyboer (Twyla, Moriah, Sarah, Joel, Jessica, Matthias and James); Jannette & Albert Oostenbrink (Stephanie, Marquita, Jared, David, Larissa, and Isaac); Karen & Nathan Schouten (Alexa, Tasha and Kendra); Ken & Ineke Kooyman (Jacob, Kyrsten, Elizabeth and Elias).
He is survived by his only remaining sibling Coba Van Klei and numerous in-laws, nephews and nieces. Jacob was predeceased by his sister Johanna Verwoert (2019) and brothers Leonard (2016), Jan Hendrick (1953) and brother-in-law Wayne May (2016), and nephew Joel Arnoldussen (2003).
An opportunity to express condolences will be Thursday April 7 at 7:00-8:30pm at Bethel Netherlands Reformed Congregation.
A funeral service will be held on Friday April 8 at 10:00am at Bethel Netherlands Reformed Congregation.
