It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Jacob (Jake) Loewen on April 19, 2008 at Chilliwack General Hospital at the age of 79. He was born August 3, 1928 in Beechy, Saskatchewan.

Jake is survived by his wife Mary; son, Dennis (Audree); daughter, Delarae (Clayton); stepchildren: Patti (Randy), Tony (Tracey), Karen (Harry), Lori (John), special “daughter” Waneta; 17 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and a large and wonderful extended family.

He was predeceased by his father, mother, and three brothers.

Jake came to Chilliwack in 1947 from Saskatchewan and worked at Hans Hop Yard. He worked for Dairyland for many years as a delivery driver and also for Bowes Moving and Storage. He was a volunteer fireman with the Township of Chilliwack for a number of years and went on to become a full time fireman with Hall #1 until his retirement in 1988.

Jake loved sports. In his younger years he played softball and enjoyed curling and was a member of the Chilliwack Curling Club.

He was also a member of the BC Amateur Softball Umpires Association and umpired in Chilliwack for several years. One of his fondest memories was of coaching the Wosk’s Hockey Team.

After his retirement he enjoyed watching baseball and hockey, playing bingo and taking his li’l buddy Bo for a walk.

There will be no service as per Jake’s request. A tea for family and friends will be held Thursday, April 24, 2008 at the Lynnwood Retirement Residence from 2:00 - 4:00 pm.

In lieu of flowers donations in Jake’s memory may be made to the BC Professional Firefighters Burn Fund.

Jake, we will miss you.
