Jacob Frank (Jack) KOPE

May 5, 2006

Sept. 5, 1920 - May 5, 2006

With family at his side, Jack passed away peacefully at home in his 86th year.

He will be forever remembered and treasured by Susanne, his devoted wife of 61 years and his 3 daughters, their husbands and children; Patricia and Edward (Andrew & Joshua), Terry and David (Kimberly Michael & Courtney), Judy and Don (Matthew & Jordana).

Born Jacob Allert in the village of Melitopol, Ukraine (then Russia) in the midst of famine and political unrest, orphaned before the age of 6, he and his cherished older brother Henry were adopted by the Kope family and immigrated to Canada in 1930, settling near Lethbridge, Alberta.

In 1940, Jack attended Rostern Academy in Saskatchewan where he met his future wife Susanne Penner. They married during World War II while Jack was stationed at the P.O.W. camp in Lethbridge, managing the dental clinic. When the war ended, he earned his teaching degree from UBC and after a brief time in Campbell River, he and Sue planted their roots in Chilliwack, BC. It was here where he taught high school and later went into administration. He had a passion for teaching, and after his family, this was his greatest love.

He leaves behind many special neices, nephews, lifelong friends, great grandchildren, Shaylee and Dawson and his only sister Johanna Allert Berg of Curitiba, Brazil.

Memorial service will be held Saturday May 20, 2pm at Chilliwack United Church.

Thanks to Dr. W. K. Son, Dr. Ron Bull, Chilliwack Home Health Care Services and a very special thank-you to Dr. Ron MacLeod for his many years of care and kindness.

If desired donations can be made to: Chilliwack United Church Mission and Services Fund (DARFUR) or The MCC Disaster Fund.
