Jacob Abram DYCK

Jacob Abram Dyck aged 91, passed away on June 2, 2003 in Chilliwack.

Jacob was a minister with the Mennonite Brethren Church in the late ‘30s and ‘40s in southern Alberta and Saskatchewan. He and his family moved to Calgary in 1953 where his career changed to include home construction. In 1957 the Dyck family moved to Chilliwack where Jake continued as a building contractor for many years.

He loved the outdoors and was an avid fisherman and horseshoe player. In his retirement years he enjoyed carpet bowling and was involved in several clubs, but most of all he loved people. He will be greatly missed by both his family and many friends.

Jacob is survived by his daughter Elaine (Frank) Unrau of Chilliwack; son David (Marilyn) Dyck of Edmonton, Alta.; three grandchildren, Corinne Eggert, Gregory Unrau and Matthew Dyck; and four great-grandchildren, Caitlin, Arwen, and Janelle Unrau, and Zachary Eggert. Also survived by his two brothers, Ben (Ida) Dyck of Chilliwack, and Bob (Florence) Dyck of Clearbrook; and three sisters, Margaret (Gordon) Mitchell of Edmonton, Alta., Esther Whitehead of Calgary, Alta., and Orpha (Phil) Fraser of Lethbridge, Alta.; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his loving wife Mary in 1993; two brothers, Don and Abe; and two sisters, Sarah and Kay.

A Celebration of Life services were held at 11 a.m. on Friday, June 6, 2003 in the Sardis Community Church with Pastor Graeme Isbister and Pastor Harold Throness officiating.
