(May 23, 1922 - Feb. 28, 2009)

Our Dad passed away peacefully in Chilliwack after a brief illness. He was a beloved father to Russell and Janie and grandfather to Ryan and Cole.

He is also survived by his sister Cam of Prince Albert, Saskatchewan as well as many nieces, nephews, friends, and neighbours. He was predeceased late last year by Whiskey — his cat and friend.

Dad was born and raised in Prince Albert. After serving his country in the Royal Canadian Air Force in England during the Second World War, he returned to Saskatchewan where he attended the University of Saskatchewan in Saskatoon and qualified as a civil engineer. He retired as a senior engineer with the Saskatchewan Department of Highways and moved to Chilliwack where he lived the rest of his days.

Dad will lovingly be remembered for his humour and compassion. He loved to sing corny songs from the 20’s and 30’s and retained a passion for music throughout his life. He adored kids and had a talent for making them laugh. In his later years he took up painting and did volunteer work as a math tutor teaching young inmates in some of the local correctional institutions.

In the last year of his life he was cared for by the marvellous staff at Heritage Village in Chilliwack who provided him with affection, comfort and kindness through a very difficult decline in his physical health. As well, Dad had the benefit of an excellent physician Dr. Quentin Smith whose wisdom and compassion will always be remembered by the family.

A private wake will be held for family and friends at a later date to be set in the near future.

In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made in Dad’s name to Heritage Village Life Enrichment Fund, 7525 Topaz Drive, Chilliwack, BC, V2R 3C9 (tel: 604-858-1833).
