Ivy (Ida) SELMER

April 22, 2006

Mom passed away peacefully, Saturday, April 22, 2006 at Chilliwack General Hospital, age 94.

Ivy was born in 1911 to Edward and Wilhemina Schmidt of Beausejour, Manitoba.

Originally one of 13 brothers and sisters, she is survived by brother Emil Schmidt and son Kenn Sundberg, both of Chilliwack.

In 1947, she met widower Rudy Sundberg while at a dance in Winnipeg. They married and followed together the construction trade westward until they settled in Vancouver. Together they raised two sons until Rudy’s death in 1963. Six years later, she married Larry Selmer who predeceased her in 1987. In 1992, she suffered the loss of her eldest son, Victor.

An avid bowler, Mom was known to introduce herself as a “Gutter Girl”. She displayed her trophies with pride and amazed us all by bowling well into her 80’s. When ill health forced her to retire, she missed the camaraderie and competition. During this time, she became active in the Senior’s Group from Christ Lutheran Church, and their friendship and support became very dear to her.

As the family grew and spread around the country, Mom treasured every card and letter she received. Her apartment was filled with reminders of family gatherings and photos of the family she loved. She spoke of everyone with kindness and affection. Her memory is special to her six grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Thank You to Dr. Ken Hirst and the nursing staff of Chilliwack General Hospital for your care and attention during Mom’s last days.

Services to be held at Woodlawn Funeral Home, 45865 Hocking Ave, Chilliwack on Monday, May 1 at 2:30 pm, viewing noon to 2:00 pm.

If so desired, memorial donations may be made to the Chilliwack Branch of the Canadian Diabetes Association, Box 267, Chilliwack, BC V2P 6J1.
