It is with great sorrow that we announce the sudden passing of Ivan Polivka on October 19, 2010 in Tofino, BC at the age of 65. Predeceased by his wife Chris Webber; he is survived by stepson John Lawrence (May), stepson Fred Webber (Liz), 5 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren, brother Jan Polivka (Jirina) and children Katerina and Lucie, brother Jiri Polivka (Alena) and children Jana, Jiri and Martin.

Born in Czechoslovakia on March 2, 1945. He had a Forest School and nature was his life. He came to Canada in November, 1968 shortly after the Russian occupation of Czechoslovakia. He lived in Chilliwack and Harrison Hot Springs before moving to Chesterman Beach with his wife Chris in 1989. He was deeply loved by everyone who knew him, a gentle giant with a heart of gold. He was a true environmentalist long before that word became popular. As an experienced Paramedic, he touched and saved the lives of many people. He was also a writer, poet, artist, carver, photographer, scuba diver, mountain climber, marksman, master fisherman, comedian and could speak 5 languages. He loved Tofino, but his true love was for the Yukon and his cabin at Lac LeBarge. He was a one of a kind character who will be missed by many. Services for Ivan will be held at 1:00pm on Saturday, November 6, 2010 at Wickaninnish Elementary School, Tofino, BC.
