June 20, 2020
Our dear Mom, Irma Henry, died on June 20th 2020 at Chilliwack Hospice. She was born in Romania 1925 and immigrated here in 1930. From then on Canada benefitted from a generous, kind, genuine hardworking woman. Life was not easy when she arrived but through the years and her own determination life improved.
She was married to Vic Henry (predeceased 2014) for 69 years. They had 4 kids Vicki (Robinson), Don, Martin and Syndi (Nicholson). All of us were supported, loved and guided to work hard, learn and help those around us.
Mom showed her giving spirit when she fostered over 37 children in the early years: many right from the hospital. They needed love and protection and they got that from Mom.
Those who joined the family along the way, Ray, Jane, Mia and Ken were welcomed into the family and treated the same as all the rest of us. Mom had grandkids, and even great, great grandkids. She gave all of them love and experiences that made all their lives richer whether it was at the farm doing chickens or out around a campfire or in the kitchen. Her sewing room produced everything from jeans and coveralls to wedding dresses and beautiful lingerie. She was a good teacher and all of us learned so much from her.
Mom's generous spirit was shown to her brothers, sisters and friends through the years. The helping hand was always extended to whom ever needed it.
There wasn't a craft or project that she was afraid to tackle. Even in her late 80s she was taking classes to learn something new. In her 90s she was making baby hats for the maternity ward. All our homes have the honor of having her beautiful work on display.
To say Mom was a good cook is an understatement. No one could make schtrudla like she could. You never left her home hungry and if you were lucky you took home left overs. We were blessed that she shared her magic touch with family and friends. Her recipes will live on in all our families.
Know you are loved, Mom and we will miss you forever. We are truly honoured and blessed that you gave us so much. Thank you.
We would like to thank the staff at Hospice for the dignified and tender care they gave Mom.
Due to the Covid the Celebration of Life will take place at a future date.
In lieu of flowers donations to Children's Hospital or Chilliwack Hospice would be appreciated.
