April 7, 1939 - May 27, 2020
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear Mum, loving wife, sister, and dear friend Iris Ellen Green onMay 27th at Cascade Hospice after a brief battle with Leukemia.
Iris was born April 7th in Camberwell, England. Proud parents were John and Alice Gordon
Iris moved from England to Germany while John was deployed to fight for his country. After that they moved back and forth between Germany and Manitoba until Iris met the love of her life and married Malcolm Green on July 25th 1964. Also, a military man, this found her following her new husband back to Germany for a short time before being posted to Vancouver. It was in Vancouver that they adopted their first son Gregory. They then were posted to Chilliwack BC and that's where they fell in love with the little slice of heaven in the valley.
It was short lived and they were posted to Petawawa where they adopted their second son Geoffrey. Once again, they were on the road to Edmonton to go live on the base but their dreams came true and they got posted back to Chilliwack in 1979. This is where they put down roots and would not move again.
Over her lifetime in Chilliwack Iris worked in banking and enjoyed volunteering for many different organizations. In her spare time, she truly enjoyed going to watch her two boys play hockey. She made many amazing friends and it was very evident that she cared for them as much as she cared for her own family.
Forever the bargain shopper, Iris's favorite places were the thrift stores and garage sales. Mac never hesitated to happily take her from garage sale to garage sale on most Saturdays. To say she loved books was an understatement. She built an amazing collection of her favorites and ones that she thought would be her friend's favorites. She would rejoice in the finding of a new book store or finding a good collection at a garage sale.
She also loved to spend her time with the Friends of the Library organizing quiz nights and book sales. But her absolute favorite place was beside her husband. She was a devoted wife of 55 years and he will miss her more than any of us will.
She will be deeply missed by her husband Mac, her sons, Greg and his wife Jodene and their daughter Jayden, Geoff and his wife Sheana and their two boys Colton and Brodin. As well as her sister Pam Russell.
The impact that Iris made in the lives of so many will never be forgotten. She leaves a hole in many lives that will never be filled but the memory of her will certainly help.
She was predeceased by her Mum Alice Gordon and Father John Gordon and sister Joan Bowskill.
Due to the current Covid restrictions a small service will be held at St Johns Anglican Church for Family and close friends. A small grave side service will follow. A celebration of Iris's life will be held at the Vedder Legion at a date yet to be determined but the family will do its best to keep everyone informed. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to The Leukemia & Lymphoma society
