Adams; Irene Ruth. Mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and great-great grandmother passed away Wednesday, October 16, 2013 in Chilliwack General Hospital at the age of 91. Mom was born in Chilliwack on September 16, 1922. She grew up on Fairfield Island and was the third oldest of ten children.
Mom loved to dance and it was at a dance at the Masonic Hall where she met her future husband. She and Alic were married August 2, 1946 and then moved to the family farm on Unsworth Rd. where she resided until her passing.
Mom worked hard all her life helping on the farm and raising four children. She was a member of the Atchelitz Women's Institute for over fifty years catering banquets with her good friends Dora Aarts and Lila Preston. The three of them also delivered Meals on Wheels. Mom was always there to help with W.I. and the Chilliwack Fair entries.
Mom enjoyed knitting, quilting, reading, traveling, and her home grown vegetables but also found time for trips to the casino. She cherished her family around her and looked forward to her grandchildren's visits. She is survived by her sons Doug (Gloria) and Ernie; daughter Lorraine Thomson (Charlie); daughters-in-law Sharon Adams and Wendy Dobell (Peter); grandchildren Toni (Tom), Tara (Matt), Tracy, Shane, Blair (Carla), Clark (Bev), Andrew and Geoff; twelve great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother Bill (Jean); sister Dorothy (Larry) and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Alic in 2004; her son Floyd in 2000 and seven siblings: Tom, Kate, Albert, Walt, Sue, Frank and Doug. Thank you to Dr. Paul Basson, Dr. Ron Bull, home support services and friends who came to visit. A memorial high tea will be held on Sunday, November 3, 2013 (in keeping with mom's tradition) from 2-4 pm at the Atchelitz Hall on Lickman Rd.
