Millie Silver lost her battle to cancer on September 3, 2012 at Cascade Hospice at the age of 74 years. Born in Harrison Mills, BC to Nancy and William Phillips on December 8, 1937, she spent her childhood in Chehalis and went to school in Mission. She graduated from St. Mary’s in 1957.

Millie married Erich Schmidbauer in 1959 and was blessed with five children. She was later married to Ray Silver in 1989.

She was a strong cultural and spiritual leader in the community and gave of herself heartily to pass on traditional teachings. She leaves a strong legacy and a loving family.

She is survived by her husband, Ray Silver; children: Bill (Alison), Tony (Lisa), Deanna (Luke), Donna (John), Rob (Trena), Louise (Nick), Janet, Kathy, Verna (Dan), Bernice (David), Ray, Janice, Ambrose (Joan), John (Diana), Edna, Paula (Owen); 68 loving grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren; and two brothers and two sisters along with their families. She was predeceased by her parents Nancy and William Phillips, six brothers, one sister, and her first husband Erich Schmidbauer.

A Celebration of Life Service was held on Friday, Sept–ember 7, 2012 at Sumas First Nation Longhouse.
