Hosie MacKAY

Hosie Mackay of Agassiz, BC, passed away on March 24,2007 in Chilliwack General Hospital at the age of 92. He was born in Agassiz on April 7, 1914 and was a resident all his life with the exception of a few years in Chilliwack during the 1920’s.

He will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by his family and friends and fondly remembered for his great story telling and sense of humor.

Hosie was a member of the Agassiz-Harrison Histor–ical Society and held life memberships with the Atchelitz Threshermen’s Association, the Chilliwack Plowing Society , the Southwestern British Columbia Draft Horse Association.

During his life he horse logged, cat logged, built logging roads for Earl Brett, Clarke Brothers, Hilltop Logging, Blodel, Stewart & Welsh, Inglewood and Canadian Forest Products.

He was also a breeder of Appaloosa horses until he decided to get back into draft horses. He plowed at the Plowing Matches and also acquired an antique wagon which was used for parades in Agassiz and Chilliwack.

He was pre-deceased by his wife Agnes, 1981, son Donald in 1995 and great-granddaughter Amanda in 1983, his brother Eoin Mackay and sister-in-law Barbara Mackay.

He enjoyed a full long life, just two weeks short of his 93rd birthday and will be greatly missed by his daughters Peggy Beck, Florida, Jeannie Mackay, California, son Ian “Bunk” (Carol) Mackay, Agassiz, and daughter-in-law Peggy Mackay, Chilliwack, as well as 11 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren, and his sister-in-law, Fair (Harold) Holroyd, nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, April 7, 2007 at 1:30 pm at Agassiz United Church. The Reverend Neill McRae officiating, with a reception to follow provided by the United Church Women.
