Hilda Theresa ROSSNAGEL

February 9, 2004

Hilda Theresa Rossnagel passed away peacefully at Chilliwack Extended Care Facility on the 9th of February 2004. Hilda was a resident of the Rosedale/Chilliwack area for 38 years. She was first a devoted wife and mother, giving support and encouragement to her family. Her faith was a constant throughout her life.

Hilda, the daughter of Josef and Augusta Tonn, was born in Neuhof, West Prussia on May 14, 1913. The family moved to Germany during the First World War, then emigrated to Brazil for two years. The family came to Canada in June 1925, residing in Waldersee, Man. As a young woman she moved to Toronto working as a maid. Being adventurous, she moved to Hartford, CN., where her sister lived and continued to be employed as a maid, later becoming a cook.

Hilda married her husband Arthur on February 13, 1937 in Connecticut. In 1939 they moved back to Canada and settled on a farm in Deseronto district of Manitoba. Son Robert and daughter Lorraine were born there. In 1947 they moved to Plumas, Man. where Barbara-Rose, Kurt, and Lloyd were born.

In 1966 as a result of Arthur’s ill health, she, her husband, and three youngest children moved to Rosedale. Here she supported her family working at York Farms for 10 years. After her retirement, she worked in local homes, housecleaning and babysitting for numerous young couples. This displayed her genuine love for children.

Hilda loved to take a chance, and as a result, enjoyed her frequent trips to Reno and local bingo halls. Her nieces and nephews liked her carefree young at heart attitude, with the telling of stories and participation in practical jokes. Her hobbies included gardening, cooking, crocheting, and participating in senior activities. She enjoyed travel and dining out, even though she was a wonderful cook. Her home was always open to family and friends, and often was the hub of social events.

Hilda was predeceased by her husband Arthur; and grandsons, Robert McCurry and David Pierrot.

Those left to celebrate her life and mourn her death, are daughters, Lorraine McCurry (Lawson) of Plumas, Man., and Barbara-Rose Pierrot (Robert) of Agassiz; sons, Kurt (Laura) of Columbia Valley, and Lloyd (Wilma) of Langley; grandchildren, Theresa Francis (Kerry), Graham and Teighan; Tim (Kathy) Pierrot; Keith (Michelle) McCurry, Kamryn; and Aaron Rossnagel.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Feb. 14, 2004 at 1 p.m. at Henderson’s Funeral Chapel, 45901 Victoria Ave., Chilliwack.

If family or friends so desire, donations may be made to the charity of their choice in memory of Hilda.
