Hilda Frances Marion McGillivray passed away on January 10, 2008 at Tabor Home in Abbotsford B.C. at age 92 years.
She was born December 3, 1915 in Chilliwack, B.C.
Hilda is survived by her sister: Edith Toop; sister-in-law: Margaret McGillivray and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents Connie and Wes McGillivray; brothers: Donald, Pat (Stewart), Gordie McGillivray; and sister: Jean Lefroy.
Hilda was the youngest daughter of Connie and Wes McGillivray. Her parents and grandparents were prominent Sumas pioneers.
Hilda worked for the Berry family at the Royal Hotel in Chilliwack and then attended the Pitman Business School in Vancouver. She went on to become a well-respected figure in the insurance world. Until her retirement, Hilda worked and lived in Vancouver.
In her leisure time, she enjoyed golfing and lawn bowling. Frequent trips were made “To the Valley” to visit family.
In her latter years in the Kerrisdale area of Vancouver, she made many friendships and was a personal shopper for many seniors.
Hilda returned to Chilliwack to live in 1994. She always maintained an avid interest in the history of the Chilliwack area and shared many stories with family and friends.
Her unique personality will be fondly remembered by all who knew her.
A viewing for family and friends will be held on Thursday January 17, 2008 from 1:00 -2:00 p.m. at Henderson’s Funeral Home in Chilliwack.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday January 17, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. from the Chapel of Henderson’s Funeral Home, Rev. Kevin Pentland officiating.
Pallbearers are Vic Toop, Bruce McLennan, Allan McGillivray, Don Ortgies, Ken Pedde, Wallace Mitchell and Ed Hameluck
Burial will take place following the service at Chilliwack Cemeteries
Memorial donations may be made to Alzheimer’s Society of B.C. or Ann Davis Transition House in Chilliwack, B.C
