With heavy hearts our family announces the passing of our beloved husband, dad, grandfather, great grandfather, and brother at the age of 91.

Herman was born in Raalte, Holland, May 5, 1927 to Harrod and Dora Korbeld. He was the third youngest of 11 children.

During WW 11, Herman served 2 1/2 years in the Dutch Army and was stationed in Indonesia. Surviving the war, he came back to Raalte  and  went to Agricultural School for the next two years. After, at 27 years old, he married his life long partner and love of his life Rita Westenenk on February 3, 1954. A week later, with very little money, Herman and Rita moved to Canada settling in Ladner, BC. After a fews years as a farmhand, they bought their own farm in Chilliwack where they settled and raised their family. Their son Ed still resides there today, while their grandson, Joel operates the family farm.

Dad loved the farm life. He enjoyed raising purebred Holsteins and would venture out to many exhibitions. He often entered cattle in the Chilliwack Fair and the PNE, where in 1975 he had the Sr. Champion cow. He was also president of the BC Holstein Association in 1977.

Dad especially enjoyed our large family gatherings. He was so proud that we all gathered together often and that we all got along-it was what family was all about! He was always entertaining, witty and had many stories to tell.

Herman is survived by his wife of 64 years, Rita, sister Mary Houwelling, children Jeanette Deslauriers (Phil), Ed Korbeld (Coleen), Maureen Willis (John), Judy Robertson (Chad) and Debbie Wierks (Dennis). He has 17 grandkids, Brad Deslaurier (Emma), Danielle Blanchette (Jordan), Shereen Enns (Chris), Joel Korbeld, Owen Korbeld (Katelyn), Paul Korbeld (April), Melissa Godbout (Andrew), Lindsay Hall (Marlon), Grant Rollheiser, Kevin Rollheiser (Val),  Kyle Rollheiser, Nicole Hyrciw (Brett), Sarah Les (Chris), Mitchell and Megan Wierks, Cassie and Makayla Robertson. He also has 12 great grandchildren. Herman was predeceased by his daughter Marilyn Jan 2, 1983.
