June 7, 1929 - February 3, 2024
Henry Schiwy was born in Ukraine on June 7, 1929, the middle child of Emil and Olga Schiwy. The family relocated to East Prussia the following year.
His parents were deeply rooted in the evangelical faith and Henry was a born again Christian from a young age. In 1949 they immigrated to Canada and settled in Chilliwack where they were active in the Victoria Avenue Baptist Church.
In 1951 Henry married Lilli Fender and they enjoyed a blessed marriage of over sixty years and had three children together.
Henry was a pillar of his church community and a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He was greatly loved by his family and will be missed for the rest of our lives. Henry was extremely generous with his time and expertise and anyone in need of a helping hand could count on his assistance.
He was widely known in Chilliwack for his high quality work as a contractor and builder, and built many homes during the 1950s through 1990s. In his spare time he loved making music and became a skilled player on his keyboard.
Henry was predeceased by his wife, Lilli Schiwy, and is survived by two daughters, Marlene Schiwy (Steve Rosen) in Vancouver, Nellie Schiwy in Victoria, and a son, Walter Schiwy in Chilliwack, and two grandchildren, Stefan and Chelsea Brandt in Victoria.
He also leaves behind his brother William Schiwy, sister Irma Dreger, sister in law, Ede Fender, and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will take place on Saturday, February 10th at 3 pm at Midtown Church, 45657 Yale Road, Chilliwack.
